Regulators are asking practitioners to review AI output and keep a record that they did. For tax practitioners, the TPB's guidance on AI (TPB(GS) 55/2026) says AI output should be verified and those steps documented. In many practices, that record lives in someone's head, an email, or nowhere.
Getting ready for 10 December 2026.
From 10 December, organisations covered by the Privacy Act must explain in their privacy policy when computer programs make, or substantially help make, decisions that could significantly affect people (new APPs 1.7–1.9). A quick correction: the small-business exemption is not ending. Most businesses with turnover of $3 million or less remain exempt, but some, such as health service providers, are covered whatever their size. If you're unsure, check with your adviser.
